The Director, Technology is responsible for setting the strategic technology direction for DentalPlans.com and leading the technology organization that supports a direct-to-consumer digital business. This role partners closely with Product and business leaders to translate strategy, customer needs, and growth priorities into a clear, proactive technology roadmap, balancing modernization, reliability, quality, data readiness, delivery speed, risk, and investment tradeoffs.

The Director leads a blended team of internal and outsourced engineering, quality assurance, infrastructure, and web development resources, operating as a hands-on, delivery-minded leader who strengthens the operating model and team capabilities needed to deliver consistently. The role partners closely with business leaders to surface the technology implications of strategic decisions, improve delivery discipline, reduce recurring quality and reliability issues, and ensure technology work is clearly connected to customer, member, and business outcomes.

The Director also evaluates practical artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that can improve team efficiency, engineering practices, product quality, and operational effectiveness. The role stays connected to technology initiatives across the broader Henry Schein One portfolio to identify capabilities DentalPlans.com can adopt and opportunities for DentalPlans.com practices or technology to contribute back to the broader portfolio.

This position is remote within the United States with up to 10% travel as needed.

What You Will Do
  • Translate DentalPlans.com’s business strategy and growth priorities into a clear, actionable technology roadmap, proactively surfacing technical implications, tradeoffs, risks, and opportunities
  • Own the development of strategic technology objectives and long-range plans for the department, incorporating the realities of existing homegrown systems and technical debt
  • Communicate technology direction, priorities, and tradeoffs clearly to executive leadership, team members, and other stakeholders
  • Educate executives and other senior-level stakeholders on technology and market changes that affect mid-to-long-range business strategy
  • Evaluate and champion practical AI capabilities that improve team effectiveness, delivery speed, product quality, and operational performance while distinguishing meaningful opportunities from immature or overstated capability
  • Establish, improve, and sustain practical delivery processes and controls across software development, quality assurance, and release management to deliver new features, enhancements, and innovation with greater reliability, predictability, and quality
  • Ensure adherence to defined standards and best practices across Analysis, Quality Assurance, Software Engineering, Project Management, and Release Management, whether delivered by internal staff or outsourced/BPO partners
  • Build team-level ownership and accountability so quality, reliability, and customer-impacting issues are identified and addressed before they affect members, customers, partners, or revenue
  • Lead and develop a blended team of internal engineers and outsourced/BPO development, quality assurance, and front-end resources across onshore and offshore locations
  • Develop team capability, accountability, and leadership through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, clear operating standards, and effective partner management
  • Maintain active engagement with the HS1 CTO organization, engineering leaders, and technology initiatives across the HS1 portfolio, identifying opportunities for DentalPlans.com to both leverage and contribute capabilities, practices, and expertise
What We Are Looking For
  • 12+ years of progressive Information Technology experience, including 5+ years leading IT teams in a senior leadership where you owned the full scope of the IT function end-to-end
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Broad knowledge across the full technology stack supporting a direct-to-consumer digital business, including web application development (including WordPress) and backend development, databases, integrations, infrastructure/systems administration, QA, and digital platform operations
  • Experience supporting customer-facing digital platforms, balancing reliability, usability, conversion, operational efficiency, and business performance
  • Excellent understanding of the SDLC, project delivery, and continuous process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma)
  • Exemplary leadership and the ability to develop blended internal, outsourced, offshore, and virtual technology teams, with a proven ability to attract, mentor, and retain high-performing talent
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy, customer needs, and financial objectives into technology roadmaps, investment decisions, and execution plans driving successful outcomes and technology management
  • Proven ability to evaluate legacy systems and technical debt while balancing growth, modernization, risk management, operational priorities, and budget constraints
  • Hands-on experience applying AI tools within engineering, quality assurance, or operational workflows, with a practical focus on business value and outcomes

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
